Employment Regulations s.26: rest breaks of "not less than 15 hours" for a working day of more than 6 hours
Section 26 of the Employment Regulations entitles an Employee whose working time on a day is more than 6 hours to rest breaks of "not less than 15 hours" in total; the breaks "may be spent away from the Employee's workstation". With the 8-hour limit in section 24 this makes a day of 23 hours of work and breaks, and more than 24 hours once working time exceeds 9 hours, so the figure is hard to apply as a break during work. The text has been the same since 2017. For comparison, the ADGM Employment Regulations (2015, 2019 and 2024), which have the same structure and the same 6-hour trigger, give rest breaks of not less than 1 hour in aggregate. The intended figure cannot be derived from the AIFC text itself.
Proposed correction
Please clarify whether the 15 hours in section 26 means breaks during work or total daily rest, and amend the figure or the wording accordingly.
